Preparation for Baptism (Under 7 Years of Age)

Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)

Registration is now open for RCIC! RCIC is offered Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30PM and begins November 29. This curriculum presents the basics of Catholicism for students with minimal catechesis, or as a review, in readiness for the Sacraments. William H. Sadlier’s One Faith, One Lord develops your child’s knowledge and understanding of Catholic teaching through relationship and identity in Jesus, and His Church.

Faith Formation (Grades 1-5)

The Faith Formation program, above all else, is Alive! It is an exciting and friendly way for elementary age children to learn about their Catholic Faith. Above all else it strives to help prepare the students to live their faith in a challenging environment. The program runs October through May, following the Mercer Island School District Calendar for days of closure.

The curriculum for this year's Elementary Faith Formation (grade 1/pre-requisite of First Communion; and grades 3-5) will be Our Sunday Visitor’s Alive in Christ. It's a trusted program that teaches your child how to know and love God, progressively, through the Holy Spirit and Sacred Scripture. (Registration for pre-requisite 1st grade closes on Friday, October 6).

Preparation for 1st Communion & 1st Reconciliation

This is a 2-year program - The prerequisite year consists of year in Faith Formation or Catholic School (1st Grade). The second year consists of the First Communion class concluding with the First Communion Mass (2nd Grade).

Did you know that First Communion is a two-year process beginning in 1st grade? The Archdiocese requires a prerequisite year for all 2nd grade children seeking First Communion in the 2023-24 school year. Attending 1st grade Sunday Faith Formation classes, St. Monica’s School, or another Catholic School, will meet this requirement! The parish curriculums this year will be Alive in Christ for the prerequisite year (1st grade), and Signs of Grace program for First Communion (2nd grade). With these programs your child will receive the required catechesis (1st grade) and prepare to receive the Sacrament of First Reconciliation/Confession (2nd grade) and their First Eucharist/ Communion (2nd grade)! (Classes begin on Sunday, October 1, at 10AM, registration closes on Friday, October 6.) If your child is in the second grade or older and hasn’t done their prerequisite, no worries we are here to help! Please call 206.232.2900 and ask for the Department of Faith Formation!

Middle School Youth Group

High School Youth Group

Preparation for Confirmation (Grades 7-12)

This is a 2-year program - The prerequisite year consists of a year attending a Catholic School or active participation in Youth group. The second year consists of the Confirmation class concluding with the Confirmation Mass. For students enrolled in St. Monica School, these classes are part of the religious curriculum, but all participants (from both School & Parish) must register!

Did you know that Confirmation is a two-year process starting in 6th grade (and up)? The Archdiocese requires a prerequisite year for all children seeking Confirmation in the 2023-24 school year. Attending St. Monica Youth Group (middle-school on Mon., or high-school on Thurs.), St. Monica’s School, or another Catholic School, will fulfill this requirement! The Confirmation class which begins in 7th grader (and up) will perfect the graces of Baptism. Classes will be held on Sundays between the 9AM and 11AM Mass. This year we introduce a program by Life Teen called Purpose, which prepares students to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, embrace the Gospel, and answer the many “why?” questions of our Faith. (Classes begin on October 1, at 10AM, registration closes on Friday, October 6).

Preparation for Marriage

Marriage preparation classes are offered quarterly beginning in July and follow the guidelines for the Archdiocese of Seattle. There is a FOCCUS pre-inventory, Catechesis and Theology of Marriage, and a Natural Family Planning component. Couples wishing to get married at St. Monica Parish must first contact Gloria Hardy to request an appointment with Father and a Marriage Preparation Questionnaire

Registration is now open for our 2024 Bible Studies!

Sign up now for our weekly bible studies! There are two great groups:

  • The Tuesday evening group will begin their meetings on January 9 at 6:30PM. This group will be studying “Romans”.
  • The Wednesday morning group will begin their meetings on January 10 at 8:30AM (following the morning Mass). They will be studying “The Early Church”.

Saint Monica Men's Group

Father Nagel and Colin Lewis (Parishioner & Teacher at St. Monica School) have invited the men of St. Monica Parish (Ages 19+) to a newly formed Saint Monica Men's Group. The group meets on Sunday evenings at 8:00-9:00PM. Each evening will begin with 15 minutes of prayer in the church. The group will then head to the School Commons for 30-45 minutes of faith discussion based on a reading assignement from a provided book. No sign-up required. We hope to see you at our next meeting whether you completed the reading assignment or not!

Walking with Purpose Women’s Group

Although the Walking with Purpose Women’s Bible Study began September 28, registration is still open!!! In fact, registration never closes! You can join us any Thursday at 8:30AM (or after school drop-off) in the Family Center. We look forward to reconnecting with those who are returning and are especially excited about meeting those joining us for the first time. Not sure what to expect?
